Magic Birddogs utilizes a breeding program based in part
on the principles used by the most famous breeder of field
dogs in history, the late Robert Wehle of Elhew Kennels. Our
program involves line breeding with occasional outcrosses.
By line breeding we "fix" the good qualities, and
can produce consistently exceptional pups.
We breed only females of the highest caliber that have the
qualities we are seeking, and that are proven to be able to
handle grouse and woodcock. We breed to the best proven wild
bird sires available. This breeding program produces consistently
classy pups that love to hunt and have great noses. All puppies
are fully socialized and bred for excellent dispositions.
Make excellent pets as well as field companions.
The foundation of our English setter breeding program is
the Stokely line. This line is being carried on through the
Long Gone Setters line bred by Lloyd Murray in NH. This line
is proven to consistently produce the high caliber of birddogs
that we demand. We believe that the best wild bird dogs, including
hunting dogs, come from field trial lines, and Field Trial
Champions. This has been proven over time.
Our pointers are from the world famous Elhew line.
Stud dogs: We have some outstanding males that are
proven on grouse and woodcock in the field. We keep only the
best males for breeding. Call to reserve a breeding.
Started Dogs: Started dogs are often available and
are shown at the kennel. These dogs have had a lot of work,
but still need finishing or polishing. They are ready to hunt
and will find birds.
Pups: We require a deposit to hold a pup. Since we produce
a small number of quality pups, we suggest you reserve in
advance.
Special
Puppy Program: We offer a unique and exciting opportunity
to start your puppy for you. The pups will be socialized,
started on training to whoa and come, and started on birds.
We believe that the first couple months of a puppies life
is the critical period for puppy learning. We put our pups
through a rigorous program that exposes them to hundreds of
birds, cover, and gun. This program starts at 6 weeks old.
By 4 months old these pups will hunt, handle cover, point
birds and are well on there way to being the best hunting
dog you have ever owned. These pups will cost more, but what
they will have learned will be indispensable in making them
great.
